The Western Maryland Dart Association is the largest organized steel-tip dart league in the Frederick, MD USA area. We have been running continuously for over 25 years. Our 400+ members participate in multiple divisions, on dozens of teams, sponsored by many of the Frederick area's bars and restaurants. Our primary goal is to provide a fun, challenging and rewarding darting experience for all our members. In WMDA, excellence and good sportsmanship are required. We stress individuality of each participant, and comaraderie among all WMDA members.

We have 3 seperate seasons. Fall, Spring, and Summer. These seasons play year-round so you can always get a team together no matter what time of the year it is.

Don't think you're good enough to play league darts? You don't have to be an expert! We have separate divisions for players of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. In the WMDA, everyone can play and anyone can win.

Think it might be too expensive? Steel tip darts is by far one of the most inexpensive leagues to play in. Pool, Bowling, even soft tip darts average anywhere from $15-25 a week to play, and that doesn't include other costs. Depending on how many players you have on a team at MOST our dues cost a player on average $2.50 a week per season. Yes---$2.50 a week!

Interested? Want more information? Contact us and we'll help you get on your way to playing league darts. After all, that is what the WMDA is all about—playing darts and having fun doing it.

501 Tournament and Snow - Feb 3, 2010 - Andy Bowers
WMDA shooters and visiting shooters I just want to let everyone know that forecasts call for another dumping of snow in our area Friday night. I have heard anywhere from flurries to as much as 30 inches. As of right now the tournament is on and will stay on. This is one of our most popular events and I would hate not to have it but safety is first on the list and there is a possibility of cancellation. If the tournament is cancelled I will post a blog on the website Saturday AM to let everyone know but I won't make the call until late late Friday or early Saturday. You may also call me at 301-639-3230 if you do not have access to the site at that time. We DO have a reschedule date and it will be Saturday March 6th as the 501 masters regional was pushed back to the week after. Personally I'm tired of these friday night storms and hope the next ones are on Sunday nights so we can have a few days off work :). Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you.
Snow Delays and Rescheduling - Feb 3, 2010 - Andy Bowers
WMDA Captains, here is the WMDA rules on snow delays.....

If a Snow Emergency Plan is in effect for Frederick County, Maryland, as stated by the Maryland State Police, at 5:00pm on a scheduled league night, then matches will be considered league-postponed. However, if both teams agree to shoot, they may play their match as scheduled.

2.9.2 Rescheduling League Postponements
League-postponed matches will be rescheduled on an alternate night within 4 weeks of postponement, but not later than one week prior to the first playoff match unless deemed otherwise by the Board of Directors

I am figuring that most or all of the snow will be gone from the roads by game time tonight but for future snow issues please adhere to the guidelines. Always remember if both captains wish to play and have the players to play then please do so. Rescheduling is always a pain for everyone but safety is our first concern. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at 301-639-3230. Thank you.

If you are a captain and need an extra player or 2 please give me a call at 301-639-3230. I can get you in touch with these players. I've already helped 2 other teams solidfy their rosters and am always here to assist others to make their life easier for dart night. Let me know

Also don't forget our 501 tournament is next Saturday February 6th. We had a record turnout last year so I would love to break that this year! Looking forward to seeing you there!

Scoresheets - Jan 21, 2010 - Shawn Norman
Scoresheets for div 3 and div 5 are now available on the website in the forms and files section. I will also be taking some to krugs for all captains that don't have access to print any out. A drop box is also being placed in champions this week so there will be 2 available, one there and one at krug's. Also captains, please circle 9 marks and 180's on the back of the sheet to make sure your players get credit for their shots. Sometimes 9's can look like 7's especially after printing depending on the resolution of the scanners. Divisions 1 and 2, please record any commendable shots on the bottom or on the back of the sheet. High ins above 100, marks above 145, and 8 marks and above.
Communication!!!! - Jan 15, 2010 - Andy Bowers
WMDA, I just wanted to touch base with everyone and send this quick message for future teams.

Scheduling can be very difficult at times and we have to make some difficult decisions that don't always keep everyone happy, but in the boards opinion is best for the greater good.

We actually had 11 teams request division 2. This year was very difficult and for one main reason. COMMUNICATION!

When getting players please make sure those players have committed to your roster before turning it in. We had a few instances where 1 person was on 2 rosters and one guy was even on 3 rosters. C'mon people.

I always applaud people who want to captain a team because I think if we had more people captain we could have 45 teams each year.

Just make sure that those persons have in fact committed to your team. You have 4 weeks after the start of the season to make any changes you wish.

These issues with people being on multiple rosters and lack of communication may have forced a team to drop out because of a lack of players and I do not want to see that ever happen.

These following seasons please contact your team at least 2 weeks before we start a new season to make sure they have committed to your team.

This way it puts everyone's mind at ease and makes our job easier to make all of you happy. if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you and good luck to everyone this new and exciting season. Shoot Well!!!!
